The Iron Tree MMA philosophy is one that centers around learning.  As a fitness client, you’ll receive more than just a fantastic custom workout, you’ll receive an education.  No two clients have the same regiment.  I don’t waste time having you do 100 push-ups and then 100 squats every week – you receive customized training for your body type to reach maximum results without maximum exertion.  But hey, if you really need to feel like you’re going to pass out after a session to feel good… I can make that happen, too.  Personal training can include, but is not limited to:

Mixed Martial Arts

Mixed martial arts, the combination of more than one martial art, has an illustrious history dating back to the Greco-Roman period (where it was known as pankration).  In the United States, MMA began as a testing ground for boxers, kickboxers, wrestlers, and traditional martial artists to determine which fighting style was the most effective in an unarmed combat situation.  Today, MMA athletes must be proficient in all ranges of combat- stand up striking, clinch fighting and grappling- to be successful.

At Iron Tree MMA, I’ve developed a core curriculum so that all of our fighters and athletes master proficiency in every range.  From there, we work with your individual strengths and preferences so that you master the fighting style that best suits you.  The truth is, there isn’t a single, perfect fighting or training style.  If that were the case, MMA wouldn’t exist.  As your coach, I am your guide.  I’m a teacher, and so are you.

My collaborative and team-oriented teaching style encourages students to take ownership of their learning.  Our goal is to discover and hone your perfect fighting style, based on your build, body, strengths, and weaknesses.  While experience is highly respected, no one’s perspective is discounted.  It is in this way that Iron Tree students are able to learn much faster than in a traditional martial arts environment. I will teach you how to observe your opponent so that you can learn his or her strengths and weaknesses, as well as how to maintain the high ground against any adversary.  While we will strive to create realistic training situations, a priority is placed on safety and minimizing concussive head trauma.  Whether your goals are improved self-defense or to become an MMA professional, we can get you there using state of the art training methods.


The Iron Tree MMA for Self Defense program combines the most highly effective fundamental techniques from each of the fighting ranges into a practical and comprehensive way to defend your self.  The same principles that win MMA fights are far more devastating when used in the rule-free environment of a violent street encounter.  If you want to be prepared for a surprise attack, then learning the Iron Tree system is an advantage you need.
